Engaging and interactive education about health disparities

Where we’re born, grow, live, and work help shape the quality of our overall health. Economically challenged and communities of color though face disparities in the availability of and access to:

— Quality education and job opportunities
— Nutritious food
— Safe housing
— Affordable and reliable public transportation
— Local health care and emergency services
— Public safety

As our communities become more diverse, addressing these social determinants of health (SDH) is paramount in improving the health of our communities.

Did you know?

80%

African American men are 80% more likely than Caucasian men to be diagnosed with diabetes by a physician.

30 million

Creating Awareness of Health Disparities

We believe the first step in improving health disparities is creating awareness of the issues that often go unseen or unknown in our marginalized communities. We designed Our World as an interactive experience where individuals can:

— Learn how social determinants of health impact one’s wellbeing
— Become aware of present health issues through real-world examples
— Engage in conversation about these issues and how we can find solutions

Our World - Interactive Health Education

As a fun and engaging learning experience, Our World is a unique board game experience where participants gain empathy for what marginalized communities face on a daily basis. We create this mindset during the game by having participants:

— Assigned a socioeconomic status by education, income, job, and more
— Face health-related scenarios based on today’s present issues
— Make real-time health decisions based on assigned lifestyle
— Discuss the impact of social determinants on your decision-making and health outcomes throughout the game
